Cindy Dorminy talks about her latest novel In A Nutshell, which will be released on June 8, returning to a familiar setting and why she had to tell this story.
What should readers expect from In a Nutshell?
Readers can expect a small-town romance set in rural Georgia. The cast of characters range from a close knit family, awesome friends, and meddling old biddys. Those who have read “Jam” and “Pickle” will be excited to see some old friends.
What inspired your novel?
I loved Mitch in “Jam” and “Pickle” so much that I felt he deserved his own story. True story: I wrote Mitch’s story three different ways before I decided I did him justice.
What kind of research did you have to do for the book?
I didn’t know anything about the roles a hospital attorney would have. I’m lucky I have attorney friends that helped me out. Also, I did extensive research on pies, especially those that have a crust made out of nuts.
What was your favorite part of writing this book?
Showing the out of towner how endearing small-town living can be, and finally giving Mitch his well-deserved happily ever after.

I’m pretty boring, but back in the 90s, I was a competitive bodybuilder. I still workout almost every day because I like the way it makes me feel.
After several decades of writing medical research documents, Cindy decided to switch gears and write stories where the chances of happy endings are 100% and the side effects include satisfied sighs, permanent smiles, and a chuckle or two. She writes romance novels with a slice of humor that range from historical romance to southern fried romantic comedies. Her light adult romances are published through Red Adept Publishing. She is represented by Tina Schwartz (The Purcell Agency) for her young adult projects.
Cindy enjoys gardening, reading, bodybuilding and a whole bunch of movies. She can be overheard quoting lines from her favorite movies… a lot. But her favorite pastime is spending time with Mark, her bass playing husband, Maddie Rose, the coolest girl on the planet, and fur child Jethro.
